Robonomics tokenomics
XRT is the token of the Robonomics cloud on Polkadot. Devices pay for their cloud subscription in XRT, and XRT holders govern the network and keep it running.
What XRT is for
Paying for the cloud
A device needs a cloud subscription to keep its digital twin, access lists and telemetry in Robonomics. The subscription is paid in XRT.
Governing the network
Every change to the network goes through a referendum of XRT holders. There is no developer key: Sudo was removed in October 2026.
Running the network
Collators keep the Robonomics parachain running and are rewarded in XRT. Emission is at most 25,000 XRT a year, all of it for collators.
XRT lifecycle
XRT goes round a simple circle: collators receive it, holders trade it, devices burn it to use the cloud.
- 01
Issued
Collators keep the network running and receive new XRT, at most 25,000 a year.
- 02
Traded
XRT changes hands on Polkadot and, through the Snowbridge bridge, on Uniswap in Ethereum.
- 03
Spent
A device owner activates a cloud subscription in XRT. The XRT paid for it is burned.
- 04
Burned
Burned XRT leaves circulation for good. When devices burn more than collators receive, the supply shrinks.
Where XRT lives
| Network | Role | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Polkadot | The main XRT. The network and every subscription run on it. | main |
| Ethereum | The same XRT, bridged 1:1 from Polkadot through Snowbridge, for trading on Uniswap. 0x1F75…F73f | active |
| Ethereum, legacy | R&D-stage XRT. Being migrated to production XRT. 0x7dE9…1cb7 | deprecated |
| Kusama | R&D-stage XRT. The Kusama parachain stopped on 28 September 2026. | deprecated |
There is no bridge between the new Ethereum XRT and the legacy Ethereum or Kusama XRT. Old tokens only move through the migration below.
Total supply
The cap for the production stage. Most of it is XRT that holders already had during the R&D stage.
Production XRT that is not claimed within 12 months of the migration opening is burned. The Kusama treasury has already been burned, and the developer DAO balances were not migrated.
Moving from the R&D stage
If you held XRT on Ethereum
Open the migration app with the wallet that held XRT on 5 February 2026. Accept to get production XRT plus a 20% bonus, or decline to join the buyback program instead.
If you held XRT on Kusama
Balances at the final block of the Kusama parachain move to Polkadot with a 20% bonus. There is no buyback on the Kusama side. Details on how the balances are credited will follow in a separate post.
RWS
RWS is a small experiment, not a second main token. We launched it in 2021 to try out one idea: a lifetime subscription to the network instead of paying per transaction.
- 100
- RWS in total
- 2021
- launched as an experiment
- Ethereum
- no migration needed
- Aug 2026
- subscriptions became transferable
- Only 100 RWS exist. In the 2021 design, one RWS gives a device one transaction per second, with no time limit.
- RWS lives on Ethereum. The February 2026 incident with legacy XRT did not touch it, so RWS needs no snapshot or migration.
- RWS will be connected to the production network after the Kusama XRT balances move to Polkadot. We plan to use it first for non-commercial projects such as sensors.social.
- In the network, an RWS subscription is tied to one account. Since August 2026 it can be handed over to another account.
- RWS is not retired, but it stays a niche service for a few early users.
For everyone else, the cloud subscription is paid in XRT.
